ANNOUNCEMENT: APPLICATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE BRONX CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL FOR LAW AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice provides students from the southern Bronx with a comprehensive high school education and lays the academic and social groundwork for success in college and careers. Using a theme of law and social justice, the School engages, inspires, and empowers students, and equips them with the academic skills to earn a Regents diploma and gain admission to the college of their choice prepared for success. The School creates a pathway for its students to law school and careers as attorneys. The pathway includes mentoring opportunities with law students and attorneys and partnerships with institutions of higher learning. These institutions offer college and law school experiences to our students and share with them the academic benchmarks and habits necessary to gain entrance to college and law school. The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice is a Board of Regents-authorized charter school located in the Bronx and servinh students in grades nine through twelve.

What is my local public school, and how do I enroll my child?

For elementary or middle school: Register at your child’s zoned school. Your zoned school is determined by your home address. If you don’t know your zoned school, call 311 or visit the Department of Education Web site. If you don’t have a zoned school, please visit a Student Registration Center in your borough of residence. For high school: Register at a Student Registration Center in your borough of residence.



How can my child change to another public school mid-year?

If your child attends an elementary or junior high school, talk to the School Board Superintendent. If he or she is in high school, call the Division of High Schools or Division of Alternative Schools.

What resources are available for my disabled child?

A number of agencies work together to run the Early Intervention Program, which supports infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities or delays. Each borough has a Committee on Special Education that provides services for disabled children in schools. Call the Division of Special Education for more information. The Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities can answer more general questions about help for disabled children.

How can I learn about Pre-K transportation for my child?

Established in 1992, the Pre-K student Transportation Program is administered by the Department of Transportation in coordination with the New York City Department of Education and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.The Pre-K Student Transportation Program negotiates, manages, and oversees contracts with vendors to provide safe and cost-effective transportation for 20,000 New York City preschool special education children to various preschools and service providers.
