BIOGRAPHY OF FERNANDO CABRERA

Fernando Cabrera has proudly served as the NYC Council Member representing the 14thdistrict in the Bronx since January 2010.  His leadership positions in the NYC Council include Majority Whip, Chair of the Committee on Governmental Operations and Co-Chair of the Gun Violence Task Force.  Council Member Cabrera is a member of the Black, Latino & Asian Caucus and is a staunch advocate for tenants, youth and seniors.   Council Member Cabrera is the sponsor of 19 enacted local laws and seven adopted resolutions in juvenile justice, tenant rights, jobs, community development, environmental safety, senior citizens, public safety, health, government transparency and access to New York City data.  On November 7th 2017, Council Member Cabrera won a third term in the New York City Council garnering 84% of the vote in a three-way race.  Since 2010, Council Member Cabrera has had a total of 25 legislative proposals adopted and enacted into law, including eight resolutions and 17 local laws.
Council Member Cabrera is senior pastor of New Life Outreach International in the Bronx.  He is a former program director for the Mental Health and Counseling program at Mercy College, where he also taught for 12 years.  Council Member Cabrera earned a B.A. in Religion from Southern California College, M.A. in Counseling from Liberty University and a Doctorate in Counseling from Argosy University.  He is married to Elvia Cabrera, and is a father of two and grandfather of five.
